Day 4 After LASIK
I woke up this morning with slightly better vision, thank goodness. There is still a lot of fog and haze. I was able to drive to my pal's baby shower about 17 miles away, but my husband had to drive me home about 4 hours later, because by then my eyes were dry and way foggy again. I have also developed a delightful "punched in the face" look around my eyes, but I guess that is to be expected and will fade fast. At least the tiny bloody spot in the white area of my right eye has disappeared--it wasn't attractive. I think most people have an easier time with Lasik, but I had an absolutely horrible prescription to remedy, so I guess it makes sense that I am not one of those people who miraculously awoke 4 hours after surgery to crystalline vision.

It sounds more and more like you have a bad case of dry eye. Lasik induced temporary dry eye is quite common. Nerves in the cornea are disrupted during surgery. These nerves help regulate tearing and tell you when your eyes are dry. Your eyes can be drier than you realize. Much of the hazy symptoms you describe may be attributed to or exacerbated by dry eyes.
Be sure to use only preservative-free artificial tears. Preservatives can cause problems. Preservative free will be in individual use vials.
Lasik dry eye treatment is not just about artificial tears. There are three layers to the tear film and different layers have different needs We have a detailed article about Lasik dry eye treatment at our website (Google "Lasik dry eye treatment", with different ideas on what may help depending upon which layer of the tear is deficient.
The black/blue spots on the white part of the eye (conjunctiva) are probably bruising from the microkeratome that is affixed to your eye to help create the Lasik flap. It looks pretty bad, but is not likely harmful. They often take longer to go away than you have experienced.
Do report all these issues to your doctor. Don’t assume this is all normal (even if it is). The more your doctor knows, the more advise and help can be provided.

I am not a doctor.
Great blog! Thanks. I recently had lasik surgery and by accident I stumbled upon
www.thepatientsadvantage.com. I used them when looking for a lasik surgeon. What I liked the most was that my profile remained anynomyous until I was ready to decide what to do. I received replies from four surgeons that met all the things I was looking for. I liked having that complete control without the sales pressure that some of these places can be known for.
If you are going to go down the cosmetic surgery road...better to be safe than sorry. Check them out.
